Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Words: Charles Wesley, 1739.
Music: “Mendelssohn,” Felix Mendelssohn, 1840

Hark! The herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!

Christ, by highest heav’n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time, behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th’incarnate Deity,
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus our Emmanuel.

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris’n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!

Prayer
Lord, may the words of the carols strike the chords of the hearts of seekers,
light up hearts that have turned cold
re-energize tired spirits and
bring warmth in an unkind world.
In Christ, most precious Name
Amen

O Come, All Ye Faithful

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
O sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be glory given;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Prayer
Lord, we sing this song, with lungs bursting with our praises and adoration for You as we celebrate your birth. In Jesus Name, Amen!

O Holy Night

Words : Placide Clappeau, 1847
English translation: John Sullivan Dwight (1812-1893).
Music : Adolphe C. Adam (1803-1856)

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, may we fall down on our knees with hearts full of gratitude for on this night, more than 2000 years ago, You came as a babe in a manger, with a mission to lay down your life for sinners such as us that we might be reconciled to God, our Father. By your sacrifice on the cross, we now have hope where there was none,
Show love where there used to be selfishness
Enjoy peace and serenity where there used to be hostility
Thank you, good Lord.

Have peace instead of animosityhere used to

Joy to the World

Words: Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David, 1719.
Music: “Antioch,” arranged by Lowell Mason, 1836

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Prayer
Lord, let the praises of thy people fill the earth this Christmas. May the joy of thy birth bring a new meaning in our lives.

All to Jesus, I surrender

Words by Judson W. Van DeVenter, 1896
Music by Winfield S. Weeden, 1896

Judson had been seeking God's guidance whether to pursue art or to go into full time ministry. God confirmed that he should serve Him and the outcome of his decision was the composition of this hymn and for the composer, the discovery of a talent, hitherto, unknown.

When we put God first, his blessings come, one after another. We'll be amazed and overwhelmed by His goodness and generosity. And yet, we ought not to, for if He can give us the one closest to His heart - His Son, Jesus Christ, what else is there to withhold Him?

May we mean the words of this hymn when we sing it this Christmas season.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

A Prayer

The Lord loves those who are humble
The proud He abhors
The Lord loves those who do good
He hates those who do evil
The Lord loves those who show compassion
For He is a compassionate God
The Lord loves those who fear Him
But the self righteous He will reject
Oh Lord, my God
Let your light shine in the hearts
Of your people
That they may know what is true
And what is not
In Jesus most precious Name
Amen

Prayer for Peace

Dear Lord, this coming season
May your light shine into darkened souls
To release violent men from their evil
That they may lay down their arms
To seek armistice
That the land may be healed of bloodshed
That nations may show love and forgiveness
That peace may once again reign
To the glory of thy Name
In Jesus most precious Name
Amen
